Nothing will stop ME

This is a campaign about menstrual hygiene. It’s about removing myths around menstruation, confronting taboos and raising awareness.

We called it Nothing will stop ME because it focused on improving the life opportunities, education and income of women and girls in Kenya. And it culminated in an all-day celebration that included an amazing concert and workshops in support of global Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Nothing will stop ME aims to help put an end to school dropouts and poor attendance because of inadequate menstrual hygiene management. We’re committed to preventing the loss of income and dignity of women labourers without access to safe and affordable sanitary products.

Through campaigns and workshops in local schools and community centres we support a greater understanding of the effects of poor or inadequate menstrual hygiene and its impact on entire communities hence not just the concern or responsibility for women and girls alone.

Thank you for helping us end period poverty – and give girls in Kenya the opportunities they deserve #MenstruationMatters

Menstrual Hygiene Day

Time to celebrate

28 May 2018 – Menstrual Hygiene Day was global event at the end of May that aimed to create a world in which every woman and girl can manage her menstruation in a hygienic way – wherever she is – in privacy, safety and with dignity. Throughout spring we took action and raised awareness of the challenges faced by girls and women every month. This is one way we were able to spread the word! In Kenya, Brighter Communities Worldwide used this day to promote every girl’s right to safe and shameless menstruation with a series of awareness-raising workshops in Kericho County.

We called it Nothing will stop ME because it’s focused on improving the life opportunities, education and income of women and girls in Kenya. And we held a free, all-day celebration that included fun workshops and an amazing concert which coincides with global menstrual hygiene campaigns.

Throughout the day, Brighter Communities Worldwide facilitators ran workshops that helped to break the silence and build awareness about the fundamental role that good menstrual hygiene management plays in enabling women and girls to reach their full potential.

Nothing will stop ME concert

The name says it all: Nothing will stop ME is first and foremost about ramping up the life opportunities of women and young girls. Which is worth making a noise about, right?

We’re delighted that Kenya’s Afro-pop queen and founder of the influential Sub-Sahara Entertainment, the legendary Suzanne Gachukia-Opembe HSC, helped us by putting together some of East Africa’s hottest DJs and bands for a Nothing will stop ME FREE concert. Suzanne also worked with Kenya’s top musicians to produce a song that has been especially written for the event. Our aim was not just to raise funds, but also to celebrate the amazing potential of Kenya’s young women and girls. The Nothing will stop ME concert was also about saying it loud and proud that menstruation is necessary and natural – as necessary and natural as dancing!
